Lewiston’s history runs as deep as the Niagara Gorge that begins here. About 12,000 years ago, it was the birthplace of
Niagara Falls, which has since eroded through seven miles of solid rock to its present location.
You can follow the path the Falls has taken by driving the scenic Niagara Parkway that runs along the gorge. For a wilder, heart-pumping experience, see it all from the
Whirlpool Jet Boats, ranked as one of the top five adventure rides in North America. Sport
fishing is exciting here, too. The Niagara River and Lake Ontario draw fishermen from around the world to catch trophy bass, salmon and trout.
Along with
adventures on the water, Lewiston is rich in
history and culture. Called the "Most Historic Square Mile in America," this quaint village played an important role in the French & Indian War and was a stop on the Underground Railroad. At
Artpark, you can catch a Broadway show or band concert in a unique 150-acre setting. Many visitors find tranquility in the gardens at
Our Lady of Fatima Shrine, with 130 life-sized statues of saints from around the world.
