Capital-Saratoga is New York’s power region. For one, you’ll find the state capital

military history should know that the Battle of Saratoga—basically the turning point of the Revolutionary War—took place near

Schuyler House.
It follows that history often leaves behind beautiful
architecture and
landmarks. Capital-Saratoga is full of remarkable buildings, from historic streets of Cohoes and Troy to the
New York State Capitol. Take a walk through the
Stockade area in Schenectady to see an intact historic neighborhood with buildings dating back to the seventeenth century.
Another architectural marvel is also a marvelous place for
performing arts. You simply can’t miss the
Egg in Albany’s
Empire State Plaza. Nearby you’ll also find the
New York State Museum and
Albany Institute of History and Art. Top acts, as well as summertime residents the New York City Ballet and the Philadelphia Orchestra, fill up the season at
Saratoga Performing Arts Center. To experience the kinds of venues they don’t build anymore, see a show at the majestic
Palace Theater,
Proctor’s Theater, or the
Troy Savings Bank Music Hall.
For really unique spectator events, of course, visit the world-class
Saratoga Polo Club and the famous
Saratoga Race Course, one of the oldest horseracing tracks in the US. Nearby,
Saratoga Gaming and Raceway features more live racing, as well as a
casino and gaming. To celebrate (or feel better) after your results, head over to
Saratoga Spa State Park and treat yourself to a bubbling mineral bath in the famous spring waters.
