The historic village of Fredonia is located in the Chautauqua-Allegheny region of western New York. A visit to this serene and scenic area provides a relaxed and memorable experience. Just south of Lake Erie, it offers easy access to world-class boating and fishing as well as many delightful hiking trails. The town’s beautiful parks include the Washington Sanctuary along Canadaway Creek, popular for bird watching.
Bordering the City of Dunkirk and home to the State University of New York at Fredonia, the village offers great cultural activities. The historic Fredonia Opera House, with its ornate and acoustically-ideal "Queen Anne eclectic style," proudly presents performances of some of the greatest music ever written. The annual Great Performers Concert Series features music of the Great American Songbook and the Big Band/Swing era. In early June, the annual Bach & Beyond Festival celebrates with spirited Baroque music.
For a fresh outdoor musical experience, head to the Gazebo Summer Concert Series at Barker Common. Every Wednesday evening, June thru August, it features Big Band music, Dixieland and other lively tunes.
Shopping here offers a change of pace from busy cities and malls. Main Street is lined with a delightful variety of shops and restaurants. The charming and historic White Inn offers elegant room, fine dining and casual fare. Outside the village, scenic country routes lead to roadside farmstands selling fresh produce, antique shops, art galleries and stores with handmade Amish crafts.
