The Town of Saratoga’s history is the history of America. Within the Town of Saratoga lie the villages of Schuylerville and Victory Mills, which both have prominence in the history of the Revolutionary War. The crucial Battle of Saratoga, known as the "Turning Point of the American Revolution," was named one of the 15 most pivotal battles in world history. The Battle is attributed by the heroics of Benedict Arnold and the defeat of British General John Burgoyne.
Historical site markers dot the town, but the area’s biggest attractions are Saratoga National Historical Park, Schuyler House, the Saratoga Battle Monument and the Field of Grounded Arms, where the British surrendered ceremoniously. For our younger visitors, The Children’s Museum at Saratoga allows little ones to explore and play in a safe, educational environment. With exhibits designed to encourage parental interaction, this museum allows children to feel in charge in a world that’s built to their size.
The Lakes to Locks Passage along the Hudson River and Champlain Canal runs through this area, allowing for many outdoor activities to take place. Have a picnic on the banks, bike long the canal bed, or charter a ferry and float lazily down on the water for a while. Visitors can also check out the working canal locks and the Visitor Center and Canal Park along the shores of Schuylerville.
America’s history is celebrated daily at this most legendary of places in the United States. We will never forget the sacrifices and bravery of our forefathers as they fought for the idea of equality.
