Glorious Winter Fun in Lake George
Visitors familiar with the Lake George area, in New York State’s Adirondack
Region, often think of it as a place for summer sun and fun. They are
right; but, there is so much more that they may be missing.
Winter activities
include hundreds of miles of groomed snowmobile
trails, snow tubing parks, ski resorts, snowshoeing and millions of acres of magnificent
scenery. In addition, warm inns, B&B’s, lodges, cabins and hotels provide a perfect
place to snuggle-up after a day of discovering nature’s paradise.
With no experience needed, visitors can take a guided snowshoe hike with a
naturalist at Up Yonda Farm
Environmental Education Center in Bolton Landing. The Lake George Winter Carnival
offers outdoor enthusiasts an opportunity to enjoy snowmobile races, a polar
golf tournament, IWPA dog pulls, a giant ice slide and special weekend events.
Ice fishing is also a popular
sport in the Lake George area. Anglers can fish for Northern Pike, Lake Trout
and Landlocked Salmon from mid-January through mid-February, while Jack Perch is
the catch of choice after mid-February.
Other popular activities during the winter months include cross-country
skiing, ice skating and snow tubing.
