Clayton-Three Seasons of Fun & Water!
In just under one-hour from Kingston, Ontario;
two-hours from Syracuse; three-hours from Rochester; or four-hours from Albany,
you can be in Clayton - “the quintessential river village” and jewel of a
peninsula surrounded by the magnificent St. Lawrence River.
The variety of accommodations available in the area is astounding – from
resorts to cabins, motels to campgrounds and everything in between! You can
camp on the river or sit on the enclosed porch of a B&B and watch some of
the largest freight ships in the world pass by. If you’re a sportsman looking
for some “reel” action, you can book an expedition through one of the local
charter companies. They can arrange a great package and maybe a few
fish-tales.
Getaway possibilities are limitless when you vacation in the 1000 Islands!
Bring your own boat, or rent one for a tour at your own pace. Perhaps the "Miss
Clayton" tour boat is more your speed. While aboard, you can enjoy the scenery
while being entertained by a narration about the region and its colorful
history. There are private guides to tour special areas of interest, as well as
supervised dives. Enjoy a “wreck,” artifact, night or drift dive. Above the
surface, try canoeing or kayaking. If your interests are on water, Clayton is
where you belong!
However, there is no need to be above or below the water to enjoy this region
of New York State. Land-lovers will enjoy the Minna Anthony Common Nature
Center on Wellesley Island. A special feature at the nature center is a
quarter-mile handicapped trail. There are also fun parks, a zoo with over 80
exhibits, history and boat museums, golf courses, art galleries and shopping at
great local stores!
Don’t worry about going hungry while you are here. There are a number of
excellent restaurants, from fast food to gourmet. Choosing which ones to try
may be the hardest part of your trip.
