The Adirondacks

This region is a summer wonderland!

Discover a perfect mix of wilderness and civilization amid spectacular landscapes—sky-high mountains, lush green forests and pristine waters.

The six-million-acre Adirondack Park is just a few hours’ drive from most major East Coast cities. With 46 high peaks, over 3,000 lakes and ponds, and thousands of miles of trails and canoe routes, it’s a haven for summer fun like hiking, fishing, kayaking and swimming in cool mountain lakes. Whether you stay at a family campground, a dude ranch or a posh resort like Lake Placid Lodge, you’ll enjoy the famous Adirondack hospitality.

Visit Lake Placid’s Olympic Sports Complex to ride the summer bobsled. Whiteface Lake Placid’s Cloudsplitter, called the most scenic gondola in North America, will carry you to the top of Little Whiteface, with amazing views of the high peaks, ski jump tower, and Ausable River. Mountain bikers can ride down on the trails. You’ll feel like you're on top of the world after a hike up Whiteface Mountain!

Lake Placid hosts two of the nation's most prestigious equine events:  the Lake Placid Horse Show, June 26 to July 1, and the I Love NY Horse Show, July 3 to 8. Get pumped for the Ironman USA Lake Placid international triathlon competition on July 22.

Tubby Tubes Tubing Company, a snowtubing park in Lake Luzerne, stays open in summertime! You go fast “summer tubing” on water-misted lanes with a special surface that slides just like snow or lazy river tubing on the Upper Hudson.  Explore two world-class nature museums: Tupper Lake’s W!ld Center and the Adirondack Museum in Blue Mountain Lake.

Browse the galleries and craft studios in Saranac Lake, where you can board the Adirondack Scenic Railroad. At Lake George, known for crystal-clear waters and sandy beaches, take a steamboat cruise or shop in the many antique and outlet centers. Thousands of biking fans meet for food and festivities at the Americade Motorcycle Touring Rally June 5 to 9. Kids love summertime fun at the Great Escape & Splashwater Kingdom.

Follow the scenic Lakes to Locks Passage along Lake Champlain to explore Fort Ticonderoga, historic lighthouses, swimming beaches and great places for boating, camping and watching for a legendary lake monster called Champ!
