Gun fights, explosions and a racing locomotive – that’s what you’ll find when they call “all aboard!” for the Train Robberies Aboard the Cooperstown & Charlotte Valley Rail Road departing from Milford on July 4 and 18. Your train will be stopped "unexpectedly" by a gang of Wild West outlaws and then rescued by U.S. Marshals! There will be plenty of action on and off the train throughout the ride so get your ticket today!

Head to Gilbertsville 7/10-12 to enjoy Warbirds Over the Polo Field. This event hosts military replica radio-controlled aircraft from all eras as they fly from the groomed grass runway of the Gilbertsville Polo Field. The aircraft will be any size from small electric powered to giant 30-40 pound gas burners and replicate WWI biplanes and triplanes to WWII heavy metal fighters.  Don’t forget to wear your bomber jacket!

Combine your love of history with a scenic bike ride during the Focus on Ft. Ticonderoga Bicycle Tour, 7/18 in Ticonderoga. This pleasant and reflective ride will take you back in time to when this path was the actual road used to transport military troops and supplies from Fort Edward to Lake George, the staging ground for a 1759 English attack on the French-held Fort Carillon in Ticonderoga during the French and Indian War. Saddle up and ride!

View battle re-enactments, 18th-century entertainment and discover the French & Indian War during Founder's Day Weekend, 7/18-19 at Fort La Présentation in Ogdensburg.  This event, set on historic Lighthouse Point on the banks of the St. Lawrence River at the original Fort site, is highlighted the many re-enactors who accurately depict mid-18th century French and British military and civilian life and Native society.  You’ll also enjoy browsing amongst the Sutlers, whose historic trades are integral to the event, too.

Head to Western New York and the “Tonawandas” for Canal Fest (7/19-26).  You’ll find eight days and nights of entertainment for all ages along the banks of the Old Erie Canal in the towns of Tonawanda and North Tonawanda. This is the largest event held anywhere along the New York State canal system, thanks in part to the event’s golf tournament, street art chalk contest, boat parade, concerts, food vendors and more.

NYSDEDTake a Hike!

Take a refreshing hike this spring on a walking trail at a nature center in the beautiful Central Leatherstocking region. In Dolgeville, at the Reineman/Beaversprite Sanctuary & Nature Center, you can roam over 1,500 acres of protected habitat and trails, and also explore the fascinating exhibits at the nature center. Free nature programs are also held. In Oxford, the nature center at Bowman Lake State Park offers a self-guided trail brochure for use on the nature trail around the lake. The sandy lakefront is perfect for swimmers and sunbathers…and you won’t want to forget your picnic basket, as there are several picnic areas nearby!
