Natural Wonders

From the white dunes of Long Island's Montauk, to the sky-high peaks of the Adirondacks, to majestic waterfalls, New York is filled with natural wonders. Whether you're planning on going hiking, taking scenic drives, catch a train or ride a gondola, our spectacular scenic views will take your breath away.

Feel the raw power of Niagara Falls as over three million gallons of water come crashing over its 170-foot cliffs every minute. It's estimated that 20 percent of the world's fresh water lies in the Great Lakes. Since most of it flows over the falls, you'll find it hard to match its natural beauty and power anywhere in the world.

You'll feel like you're on top of the world after a hike or scenic drive up Whiteface Mountain in the Adirondacks. Hardy adventurers can raft or tube through Ausable Chasm's maze of rock formations sculpted by the legendary Ausable River. The views are as breathtaking now as they were 400 years ago when Samuel De Champlain first explored the area.

High points at the Finger Lakes' Watkins Glen (some call it the Eighth Wonder of the World) include rocky cliffs, 19 waterfalls and a bridge over the sculpted chasm. Be awed by the vast canyons of the magnificent 17-mile-long gorge at Letchworth State Park. The Genesee River roars over three major waterfalls, including the 107-foot Middle Falls. Cliffs, created by the river's path over thousands of years, reach heights of 600 feet.

An elevator takes you down to the geological wonder of Howe Caverns in the Central-New-York region. Down where the temperature is a cool 52 degrees year-round, you can see amazing rock formations and ride on the underground river that carved this cave millions of years ago.

New York's many state and national parks have also been wowing nature lovers for generations.
