New York Architecture

As one of the nation’s first states, New York’s historic architecture spans centuries, and almost every style and era is well represented. Many famous architectural landmarks can be seen in a single tour.

Hosted by architects, the Around Manhattan Architecture Tour reveals art deco spires and historic waterfronts, engineering marvels like the Brooklyn Bridge, and icons like the Woolworth Building. See them all from the deck of the elegant yacht, Manhattan.

New York’s 77-story Chrysler Building deserves a special trip. This famous architectural landmark has been defining the city’s skyline since 1930, its gleaming stainless steel spire and art deco opulence inspire awe from below, and offer 360-degree views from its summit.

Long Island is home to the Old Hook Windmill, where wheat and corn were once ground using old-fashioned wooden technology.

Architectural legend Frank Lloyd Wright created some of his most famous buildings in New York State, including the Guggenheim Museum, the Usonian community of Pleasantville, and his signature Prairie homes that dot Buffalo’s landscape.

Sleepy Hollow’s Philipsburg Manor reveals the face of colonial New York, while Schenectady’s ornate, 16-sided Nott Memorial identifies the campus of renowned Union College.

Further north, the Great Camps of the Adirondacks show a more rustic style. Once the playground of millionaires, getaways like Great Camp Sagamore at Raquette Lake set a trend for not-so-roughing it.

Throughout Albany, particularly The Capitol and Empire Plaza, you'll discover many historical buildings and amazing architecture. In nearby, Schenectady, there are Colonial-era neighborhoods like the Stockade Historic District that remain surprisingly intact after three centuries, while proud communities like Syracuse’s Hawley-Green Historic District‬ show off opulent Victorian designs.‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬

From 1782’s Old Fort Niagara Lighthouse to theater palaces like Brooklyn’s Grand Prospect Hall and Buffalo’s Shea’s Performing Arts Center, New York’s architectural wonders are hard to miss.
