New York Arts & Culture Events

New York has always been a little crazy for arts and culture.

After all, this is the home of Broadway theater, New York Fashion Week, and Woodstock. Whether you're looking to be wooed, wowed, or weirded-out, there's sure to be something on the docket just for you.

The Art & Culture of the Empire State covers several centuries and a lot of territory. It’s hard to decide where to begin this journey, but there’s no such thing as a wrong turn.

Ausable River by Olympic Jumping Complex 71Head north along the Great Lakes Seaway Trail, a 518-mile scenic route that traces the shores of mighty waterways to port cities and charming waterfront villages. A little deeper within our borders lie the mighty Adirondacks and vacation spots like Great Camp Sagamore at Raquette Lake, where you’ll discover art speaks at paddle-making workshops and quilting bees.

New York’s Capital-Saratoga Region is a hub of architecture, industry and arts reflecting so many diverse cultures, while the Catskills region summons visions of ancient Dutch colonists and pastoral landscapes.

Central New York keeps one foot firmly in history at places like the Farmers’ Museum in TheFarmersMuseumCooperstown, a working 19th century community, and the Baseball Hall of Fame. Living history events fill the season in the dreamlike summer colors of our Finger Lakes, while families cling to a simpler way of life without electricity, phones or cars along the Chautauqua-Allegheny region’s Amish Trail.

Look beyond thundering Niagara Falls to the many more summer offerings of this historic region, then return east to the ancient settlements of our mystical Hudson Valley, home of legend, literature and early American culture. Explore Long Island’s museums, lighthouses and windmills, but save plenty of time for New York City, where every turn reveals another American icon.
