Cold Spring Harbor Fire House Museum

Details

An official Path Through History Site! We invite you to step into the past. Our History Museum is located in Cold Spring Harbor's, Nationally Registered, first fire house (circa 1896). The Museum was saved from demolition, moved, restored and enlarged six years ago. Today it serves as the home for an outstanding collection that includes the community's first piece of fire fighting equipment, an 1852 hand pump, buckets from bucket brigades, fire grenades and extinguishers, a 1923 Ford Model TT "chemical" fire engine, historic fire department equipment and memorabilia, a moving memorial to the valiant 343 NYC Fire Fighters who perished in 9.11, a 1919 Ford Model TT delivery truck and numerous photos of our community and its fire department dating back to the last 1800's. See and feel the texture of its wainscoted walls and ceilings. Delight in the tinny sounds of the Museum’s century old Nickelodeon. Let your imagination take you back to a time when neighbors stood side by side in the small whaling port of Cold Spring Harbor and fought the ravages of fire.
