Details

An official Path Through History Site! Constitution Island, in the Hudson River, was fortified by the American army in 1775. British troops destroyed the earthworks on "Fort Constitution" in 1777. Following, Polish engineer Thaddeus Kosciusko began designing Fortress West Point where barracks, redoubts and a water battery were constructed. In the 19th century, Anna and Susan Warner, renowned for their literary works, lived on the island. Anna bequeathed the property to the U.S. Military Academy`s cadets. Revolutionary War fortifications are adjacent to the house.
