Designed by Department of Interior because of national significance for Underground Railroad, antislavery, suffrage and reform activities of Gerrit Smith, including support of John Brown. The 1804 Gerrit Smith Land Office, National Register of Historic Places, has displays on the Smith family and estate, abolition activities including UGRR. A Path Through History attraction.
