Grant Cottage State Historic Site

FEATURED
Details

An official Path Through History Site! Take a guided tour of the modest cottage where Ulysses S. Grant—Civil War general, 18th US president, and beloved American icon—spent his final days. After completing his memoir, President Grant died at the cottage on July 23, 1885. Walk the grounds. Check out special programs and events. President Ulysses S. Grant came to this Adirondack cottage to complete writing his memoirs shortly before passing away from throat cancer. Today, the cottage and its furnishings remain essentially the same as during Grant's stay for six weeks in 1895. There is also a short path to the Eastern Outlook which commands a spectacular view of the Hudson Valley, Adirondacks in the north, Green Mountains of Vermont in the east, and the Catskill Mountains to the south. Named a National Historic Landmark by the National Park Service.
