HI New York City is more than just a place to stay for solo travelers and groups from around the world. We believe in the power of travel to foster a deeper understanding of people, places and cultures that leads to a more tolerant world. As a nonprofit, charitable organization, all money earned by the hostel is reinvested in this cause.
We fulfill our mission by helping you discover the fascinating history, diverse culture and unique neighborhoods that make New York an unforgettable, world-class destination. Join our volunteers for an incredible walk across the Brooklyn Bridge at sunset or a stroll through Central Park’s majestic meadows and ponds. Get to know your fellow travelers during one of our twice-weekly Welcome Parties and then experience the nightlife only locals know about on one of our evening outings.
Located on Manhattan’s famous Upper West Side, the hostel is surrounded by Central Park and Riverside Park, and is minutes by subway from Times Square and Rockefeller Center, the High Line, Metropolitan Museum of Art, Empire State Building and the ferry to the Statue of Liberty. We’re a short walk from Columbia University and St. John the Divine and close to the vibrant neighborhood of Harlem.
Our recently-renovated, historic building has numerous common areas for you to relax and plan your days, including a large outdoor patio and private green space. Free high-speed wifi is available throughout the building and our Big Apple Café serves New York bagels and other delicious fare throughout the day and late into the night. If you prefer to make your own food, our guest kitchen is always available with plenty of space for you to store food and prepare meals.
