Lido, on Frederick Douglass Boulevard’s Restaurant Row, has become a destination for both Harlem-ites and downtowners. The restaurant was founded by third generation Harlem resident, Susannah Koteen and the innovative global cuisine is created by James Beard Award winning Chef and Author Serena Bass. Bass is most known for catering high profile events such as Sarah Jessica Parker’s wedding, her various appearances on cooking shows and also her entertaining book Serena, Food & Stories. With 73 seats inside, plus an outdoor sidewalk café for warm, sunny days, Lido welcomes its guests with its rustic-chic interior, wooden tables, exposed brick walls and sage green leather banquettes. The long bar has become a magnet for the cognoscenti looking for an exciting new cocktail (we love the Hullabaloo!), and a shared plate of tuna and fried caper crostini or salt cod fritters with fennel seed aioli. Highlights from the menu (which change according to the season) include Striped Bass with Double Crisp Potatoes, Roasted Fennel and Black Olive Butter; a more modern Chicken Marsala with Shaved, Grilled Portobello Mushrooms, Prosciutto and Fried Sage; a fragrant and earthy Pappardelle with Roasted Duck, Juniper, Peas and Marjoram as well as charred and juicy Lamb Chops with a spicy plum chutney, Farro with Pine Nuts and Rosemary, and an irresistible, little Zucchini Fritter.
