The Martin Van Buren National Historic Site was the home and farm of the founder of the Democratic Party and the eighth president of the United States. The mansion, known as Lindenwald is also where Van Buren managed two presidential campaigns and entertained politicians and celebrities during the turbulent 1840s and 1850s. Visiting Martin Van Buren: There is no charge for tours or to walk the grounds of Lindenwald which are available year round from dawn to sunset. Pick up a brochure and site bulletin in the parking lot and follow the three quarter-mile wayside loop to learn more about Martin Van Buren, the founder of the Democratic Party. Park Ranger led Historic House Tours are available during the spring, summer and fall seasons. Check the web site for more details. Stories of the Community at Lindenwald: Walk the Wayside Loop and listen to a Cell Phone Tour about President Van Buren, those who worked in the house, and on the 220-acre farm! Nine stops are on the carriage road and two are located at the farm’s edge. You can access the audio tour online or dial 518-660-0600 to access the tour, which includes audio and photos in addition to those shown on each exhibit panel. Days/Hours of Operation: https://www.nps.gov/mava/planyourvisit/hours.htm Due to Coronavirus (COVID-19) our Visitor Center is open in a tent just off the parking lot staffed by rangers from 9 AM to 4 PM where visitors may check into programs or gather information about the park.
