Located less than 25 miles from Albany and Troy, Capital District Wildlife Management Area boasts mature stands of black cherry, sugar maple, yellow birch, red oak, and red spruce. Black spruce, tamarack, and balsam fir are characteristic in its bog-like wetlands. These habitats are home to a large variety of game. Hunting and trapping opportunities include white-tailed deer, wild turkeys, snowshoe hare, beaver, ruffed grouse, and woodcock. Cherry Plain State Park is in the middle of this area.
