Ransom Steele Tavern

Details

Steele Hotel, as it was first known, was built in the 1830s by Ransom Steele. He was one of the original residents of Apalachin and one of the most influential people in the early development of the small village. Steele ran a mercantile store and was Apalachin’s first postmaster. Sources differ on the actual year the hotel was built; a historical marker indicates that it was built in 1831, however, an early account gives 1838 as a likely date. Throughout history, "The Hotel' as some residents have taken to calling it, has had many iterations and served many purposes. From living quarters to the area’s premier watering hole to a training facility for young men during the Civil War, the building itself is well-known among locals. Now, the Ransom Steele Tavern is the best place in town to enjoy live music, good food, including pizza, burgers, hot and cold sandwiches, and a cold drink. Stop in today and take a step inside history.
