S. Gerald Ingerson Preserve and Sissy Danforth Rivergate Trail

Details

The Sissy Danforth Rivergate Trail is the result of a rails-to-trail project undertaken by the Thousand Islands Land Trust. It is a 27-mile multi-use trail with several access points, located in Clayton, Orleans, Theresa, Redwood and Philadelphia. Two miles of this trail, which only allows non-motorized access, runs through TILT's S. Gerald Ingerson Preserve. This 140-acre preserve lies south of the Village of Clayton, and is a mosaic of wildlife habitats: successional shrublands, oak, pine and maple forests, along with McCarn Creek. Protecting McCarn Creek, a tributary to French Creek, this Preserve safeguards important spawning habitat for fish species and serves as a filter to clean water that flows into the St. Lawrence River.
