Add to Itinerary

Part American palace and part industrial shed, Park Avenue Armory is dedicated to unconventional works in the performing and visual arts that require a non-traditional space for their full realization. With its 18 period rooms – by Louis Comfort Tiffany, Stanford White, and other American Aesthetic Movement designers – and its soaring 55,000 sq. ft. Drill Hall, the Armory breaks the mold of traditional presentation and enables artists to create and audiences to experience epic, adventurous work that cannot be done anywhere else in New York. Such has been its impact that The New York Times noted in 2011 that the Armory "has arrived as the most important new cultural institution in New York City." Taking full advantage of its unique assets that are so appealing to young people – a magical ruined palace setting and outside-the-box arts - the Armory’s mission also includes highly mentored arts education for under-served public school students with a focus on creative processes.
