The Quilt Room

Details

It all began in 1981 when Susie Stoltzfus, began to make quilts and show them at local quilt shows. With the encouragement of new friends, Susie first opened The Quilt Room in an upstairs bedroom of the Stoltzfus family farmhouse. People began to come from all over to see the various handsewn quilts stacked high on a double bed. Today The Quilt Room is owned & operated by Susie's daughter and son-in-law, Naomi and Glenn Lapp. The quilts are still stacked high on a double bed. However, with an inventory of close to 100 quilts, the majority are now displayed on wooden racks. Many new quilted and fabric items are added every week to The Quilt Room's inventory, as well as wooden primitive designs crafted by Glenn. The shop is nestled in a Tamarack pine grove about six miles south of Penn Yan and one-half mile from the Windmill Farm and Craft Market. Naomi & Glenn continue the family traditions that have been handed down for generations. Naomi continues to practice the art of quilt-making, a tradition that has been passed down from grandmother to mother to daughter. Glenn has honed a skill that has interested him since childhood: woodworking. Together, the Lapps run a family business that features the fruits of their creative endeavors.
