Begin your day with a hike along the Indian Ladder Trail at John Boyd Thacher State Park near New Salem, taking in outstanding vistas in every direction. Pick apples and enjoy cider donuts at nearby Indian Ladder Farms at the base of the Helderberg Mountain ridge.  

Take Rte 85 to Rte 20 east into Albany and explore the New York State Museum, with outstanding exhibits of the Adirondack Wilderness, the World Trade Center and 9/11, and Native Americans, to name a few. Ride a carousel built during the early 1900s and restored to its original state. 

Make a visit to the Albany Heritage Area Visitors Center to learn amazing facts about New York's historic capital. Choose to tour Albany by land with a self-guided walking tour available at the Visitors Center or by water on a Dutch Apple Cruise,offering daily two-hour tours of the Hudson River. Then, view the surroundings from the top of the Corning Tower at the Nelson J. Rockefeller Empire State Plaza

Enjoy dinner in one of downtown Albany's family-friendly restaurants, like the Victory Cafe,  Franklin's Tower or Evan's Brewing Company at the Albany Pump Station, where adults can enjoy a sampler of their great variety of beers.
