F&D Fall Niagara

Fall Food and Drink, Greater Niagara

hv_0801_176Autumn is definitely harvest festival time along the shores of Lake Erie and Lake Ontario – and inland too! It’s time to pick apples and grapes, and their fragrances fill the breezes with promises of delicious tastes throughout the coming seasons.

Let the celebrations begin in Wyoming’s historic Gaslight Village with their famous apple sausage, pie bake-offs and chicken BBQ!

You’ll find festivals and special events all along the Niagara Wine Trail, as well as regular tours, tastings, and quieter afternoons to enjoy a glass of wine with sunlit views of the vineyards. Downtown Batavia and Buffalo’s Elmwood Village celebrate local vintages and delicious foods with popular walking tours. Restaurant Week is a fantastic way to get acquainted with several of the local chefs and their specialties.

This area abounds with specialty markets for cheese and dairy products, bakeries that sell artisanal breads, traditional Lebanese flatbread and baklava, and many places to find Old World favorites like pierogi and pickled vegetables. If you’re not in the mood to shop or cook, you’ll find a pleasing array of restaurants, from elegant wine bars with tapas to romantic dining rooms renowned for their ambiance (and juicy steaks)to-culinary_hv_su_hv_0807_0982 to all the regional and ethnic dishes you might desire.

And, when you’re ready to add a few tasty gourmet diversions to your Niagara Falls visit, the Culinary Institute aims to please. It offers dining, tours, shopping for unique kitchen essentials, a wine boutique and classes designed to boost your existing skills.
