(1 Day)

Located in the southeastern portion of the Finger Lakes region along the banks of the majestic Susquehanna River, you'll "fall" in love on this Owego to Cortland trail. Grab the kids and head up to Iron Kettle Farm, Rte 96 in Candor, where the farm comes alive with imagination and activity from mid-September through October 31. Their "Spooktacular" pumpkin display offers one of the best exhibits in the northeast. Acres of pumpkins come alive as beloved nursery rhyme and cartoon characters to delight young and old.

Have lunch at a riverside café in the Historic Owego Marketplace. As you wind your way through its more than 80 unique shops and restaurants, you will be transported back to a simpler time. Take a leisurely stroll along the new Riverwalk, which affords beautiful scenic river views and fall colors.

Continue your leaf-peeping journey to experience Maybury Brook Stables (607/836-9969). Take fall trail rides on over 200 acres of privately owned land as well as in the adjacent state forest.

For family-fun hiking of every level, view the foliage along a scenic trail in Jenksville State Forest in Newark Valley or the Spanish Loop and Dabes Diversion Loop in Virgil (both part of the Finger Lakes Trail Conference).

Reakes Country Goods (607/842-6322), on Rte 13 in Truxton, is a great stop on your fall tour. The farm stand includes produce, baked goods, cheeses, a seasonal pumpkin patch and an entire barn full of antiques. On your way, make sure you hike to Tinker Falls located on Rte 91 north of the Village of Truxton. The quarter-mile trail from the roadway to the falls is handicapped accessible and clearly marked. A more challenging trail to the top of the falls is located to the left of the main trail. Labrador Hollow is a unique area just to the north of Tinker Falls and includes Labrador Pond and a boardwalk over the wetlands with a beautiful view of the valley.

Settle for a good night's rest in Owego where you can check in at a lovely riverside bed and breakfast, The Pumpelly House Estate (607/687-0510) or one of three complex hotels situated along the river like The Owego Treadway Inn (607/687-4500).
