Prospect Mountain above Lake George Village reveals spectacular views, and West Point's Trophy Point is ideal for highland vistas. Waterfalls and high peaks await in the Catskill Forest Preserve, while autumn colors dazzle along the 17-mile gorge at Letchworth State Park. The daring can come nose-to-nose with the falls at Niagara Falls State Park, or tackle a piece of the Appalachian Trail. And the scenery from New York's highest summit, Mt. Marcy, is nothing short of amazing.

Board a Fall Foliage Train at Utica's historic Union Station as the  Adirondack Scenic Railroad takes you through remote forests, sparkling rivers, and into the magnificent beauty of the vast Adirondack Park. Or round up the kids for the Cooperstown & Charlotte Valley Railroad's Pumpkin Patch Train.

High points

Climb the Saratoga Monument's nearly 190 stairs to its 154-foot peak and see the Adirondack Mountains to the north, the Taconic Mountains to the east, and the rolling Helderberg Mountains to the south. At the state's easternmost point, Montauk Lighthouse points to westward horizons. On Lake Erie, the Dunkirk Lighthouse still guides wayfarers to its historic 61-foot tower. At the mouth of the St. Lawrence River, Tibbits Lighthouse provides long views of the river and Lake Ontario.

Waters

Take in stunning views of New York harbor, the Statue of Liberty and Manhattan skyline aboard the Staten Island Ferry. North of Ithaca, view New York's highest waterfall at Taughannock Falls OverlookChittenango Falls is a dizzying 167-foot tower of water plummeting into a gorge. Boat tours on lakes across New York are available for you to soak in the beautiful autumn splendor.

Drives

Without leaving your car, you can soak in some of the state's most breathtaking vistas. Try a Scenic Byway along the Erie Canal's Mohawk TowpathCayuga Lake's countless vineyards, or the Upper Delaware's quaint villages. Or take the Palisades Parkway to Bear Mountain State Park's rugged mountains.
