From springtime through summer, New York is in full bloom! There are countless places to see flowers in New York. Flower festivals celebrate thousands of tulips in Albany, lilacs in Rochester, and apple blossoms blanketing orchards across the state. Check out our famous gardens, too.
In March, the annual Capital District Garden & Flower Show in Troy features more than 100 garden and floral exhibits. Along with demonstrations and workshops on flowers and design, there's a marketplace with over 150 vendors. You can buy plants, bulbs, spring flowers and seeds to create your own masterpiece.
The Cherry Blossom Festival at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden is a New York City rite of spring. Hanami celebrates the Japanese tradition of cherishing each moment of cherry blossom season. From the first Saturday in April to mid-May, visitors stroll under a fragrant canopy of cherry trees, see blossom-inspired artwork in the gallery, and savor Japanese specialties at the terrace café.
Wildflower Island, at Teatown Lake Reservation in the Hudson Valley, opens with tours of its wildflower sanctuary in April. In early May, Albany's annual Tulip Festival greets spring with over 100,000 tulips blossoming into a sea of vibrant colors. Celebrating the city's Dutch heritage, this famous flower festival begins with the scrubbing of State Street and features a Pinkster Fest with family fun, music, food vendors, a craft show, and garden tours.
Every year around Mother's Day, the Wine Trail Blossoms event along the Niagara Wine Trail celebrates springtime in the vineyards. Sixteen wineries, from Chateau Niagara to Freedom Run, as well as Blackbird Cider Works invite you for tours and tasting.
May is a beautiful time to visit the Flower City! Rochester's Lilac Festival attracts visitors from around the world, with more than a thousand blooming lilac bushes, international food and craft vendors, and great music. Another Finger Lakes festival celebrating May flowers, the fragrant four-day Williamson Apple Blossom Festival-with a parade, car show, food and crafts-has been a cherished tradition for over 50 years!
Treat all of your senses on a visit to Sonnenberg Gardens in the Finger Lakes, celebrating with a Roses & Rosés festival in June, and a Moonlight Stroll Music Series on Friday nights in summer. Festivals along the scenic Hudson River highlight the beautiful rose gardens at Lyndhurst, the expansive terrace gardens at Kykuit: the Rockefeller Estate, and other Historic Hudson Valley sites.
