Shopping season runs year-round in this state where you can explore giant malls, stroll quiet village shops or cash in at the outlet centers. Whether you're searching for famous names, famous stores or famous bargains, you won't have to look far.

Malls

Destiny USAThere are malls and then there's Destiny USA, Syracuse's 2.4 million-square-foot shopping paradise that draws 20 million shoppers a year from across the state's mid-section. This mega-mall features an indoor go-kart track, bowling alley, comedy club, and WonderWorks thrill ride. North country shoppers flock to Plattsburgh's Champlain Centre and Massena's St. Lawrence Centre. Hudson Valley bargains abound at the Poughkeepsie Galleria, while downstaters pack the fertile aisles of New York City and Long Island shopping centers.

Outlet shopping

Visit Buffalo Niagara-shoppingBargain hunters will find plenty of game in New York's many outlet centers, where top brands from Adidas to Yankee Candle sell at big discounts. Famous labels read like a Who's Who at Hudson Valley's 220-store Woodbury Common, Long Island's Americana Manhasset, and the Fashion Outlets of Niagara Falls where Prada, Gucci and Chanel are family names. Your cart won't stay empty long at the Factory Outlets of Lake George. Head south to Tanger Outlet Centers in Riverhead and Deer Park where scores of shops keep Long Islanders well-heeled. Out west, Rochester's Waterloo Premium Outlets keep registers ringing.

Holiday Valley-shop EllicottvilleVillage fare

Quieter times and unique offerings draw the winter traveler to village shopping across the state. Stroll quaint shops and peaceful streets in Thousand Islands country, an indoor farmers' market in the Catskills, or handmade delights along the Chautauqua-Allegheny region's Amish Trail and Ellicottville's Main St and Holiday Valley.    The Niagara region mixes history and shopping at Eden's Kazoo Factory & Museum, the world's only metal kazoo factory, with tours of unique kazoo exhibits, working crafters and a tuneful gift shop. Shopping is sweet in the Hudson Valley hamlet of Sugar Loaf, a famous artisans village where hand-stitched clothing, handbags and leather crafts can be purchased from the folks who crafted them.  And Woodstock is waiting to be explored!

Antiquing

Antique hunting is big business here, and winter is open season along Binghamton's Antique Row, Oneonta's Route 7 Antique Corridor, and at Middleburgh's Artisan's Gallery where Schoharie Valley artisans offer handmade treasures. Find seafaring treasures in shops along Long Island's North Fork. Score unusual antiques and collectibles one of seventy shops on Hudson's Warren Street, or sprint down Canandaigua's Bloomfield Antique Country Mile for back-to-back antique hunting at shop after shop.

Shopping sprees

New York City- Times SquareSometimes the famous name is right on the bag. In New York City you can hit block after block of legendary stores in midtown Manhattan. Macy's flagship store offers a solid city block of shopping, then follow the glitter to nearby Tiffany & Co.  Bergdorf Goodman, Lord & Taylor, and Saks Fifth Avenue are all close by. Don't forget Bloomingdale's for the newest fashions, and the granddaddy of toy stores, FAO Schwarz.
