Frederick Law Olmsted returns to Niagara Reservation State Park

Annie Edson Taylor (the first person to go over the Falls in a Barrel), French explorer Father Louis Hennepin, tightrope walker "The Great Blondin", local Businessman Augustus Porter, Inventor Nikola Tesla and young daredevil Angeline Whitney are joined this season by revered Landscape Architect Frederick Law Olmsted.

Summer Fun Day PassVoucher program allows families to pay one price to visit four entertainment venues for the day

Syracuse, N.Y.- Destiny USA will launch its Summer Fun Day Pass on July 1 for families and friends to enjoy the many entertainment venues available at the facility at a discounted rate. The program will run from July 1 to August 31, 2014.

The Summer Fun Day Pass is a booklet of vouchers guests can purchase at one cost to trade in for admission tickets to the participating venues.

Woolworth Lobby Tours100 Year-Old Landmark Building in Lower Manhattan Opens Its Doors for Public Tours

New York, N.Y. - In 1913 the Woolworth Building, hailed by architectural critics as an engineering marvel, soared 792 feet high into the lower Manhattan skyline, making it the tallest building in the world at that time. The awe-inspiring, technologically advanced steel frame structure was designed by renowned architect Cass Gilbert. In addition to the skyscraper's mechanical underbelly, which featured highspeed elevator service, self-sustaining electrical power generation, heating, cooling, water supply and fire protection, its grand lobby was recognized as a stunning and picturesque work of art.

Pittsford, N.Y. - The Finger Lakes Regional Tourism Council won a PRism award for its Public Relations efforts, at a ceremony hosted by the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), Rochester Chapter on June 19. The final numbers for the 2013 Regional Public Relations program boasted a total of 3.2 billion impressions for the year. The 14-county Finger Lakes Vacation region started the collaborative program in 2010 as a way to increase marketing efforts for the Finger Lakes and to draw more attention to the region as a whole.

Monday Morning Beginning Artists Series

Tupper Lake, N.Y. - Art enables us to experience nature - including the Adirondack Park - from a fresh perspective. Drawing and painting refines our observation skills and helps us notice new details like the purple-green scales on a fish or the unique way a flower unfurls its petals in the morning sunlight. Scientists and explorers have used art throughout the ages to open their eyes to the wonders of the natural world. Every Monday morning in July and August, The Wild Center will host a two-hour adult beginner art classes taught by Wild Center staff and local guest artists. Ages 15 and up are welcome for each class. Classes are from 9am until 11am.

USS Slater is Homeward Bound

USS SlaterAlbany, N.Y. -- USS SLATER, the last Destroyer Escort afloat in America, will return to her home berth in Albany, New York soon. Launched in 1944, SLATER served gallantly in both the Battle of the Atlantic and the Pacific Theater of Operations during World War II. In 1951, SLATER was transferred to Greece under the Military Defense Assistance Program.

Renamed AETOS (Eagle), she served as an Hellenic Navy training ship for forty years. In 1993, after deactivation, she was brought back to the United States by a group of former Destroyer Escort Sailors. Since 1998, she has been undergoing restoration while being open to the public in Albany.

Owego, N.Y. - The Tioga County Tourism Office is pleased to announce the 2014 Tioga Journeys Guided Tour schedule. Several new tours were added this year, including the "Ghastly Ghost Tour" of haunted places in downtown Owego; You Say Potato, I Say Potahto," a trip to the Richford Potato Festival; "A Journey Through Time," a visit to The Museum of the Earth in Ithaca, NY; "Terrible Tioga," a tour to lesser-known locations of horrific and intriguing happenings in Tioga County; and "Wine a Little, Hop a Little," a tasting tour of a local winery, malthouse and taproom.

Garnerville, N.Y. - Artist-photographer Spencer Tunick, artist in residence at GARNER Arts Center (formerly GAGA), is opening his studio to visitors this Sunday, June 29th from 1:00-4:00PM. Best known for organizing large-scale nude installations, since 1994 he has created over 75 temporary site-specific installations in the United States and abroad. Tunick's installations encompass dozens, hundreds or thousands of live, nude volunteers in public spaces.

The wine festival has previously drawn thousands of wine lovers over the last five years to Lewiston seeking to enjoy wines from the Niagara Wine Trail USA wineries, and cuisine from local restaurants and vendors.
