Frank and Malachy McCourt's two-character play predates classic books Angela's Ashes, ‘Tis and A Monk Swimming Schenectady, N.Y.- Limerick, Ireland in the 1930s. There was little to laugh at for Brooklyn-born Frank and Malachy McCourt, hardscrabble sons of a shiftless alcoholic who dragged his Depression-era family across the Atlantic from bad to worse.

But laugh, they did.

A Couple of Blaguards, which comes to the GE Theatre at Proctors Sept. 26-Oct. 5, is the boisterous barroom autobiography of the renowned sibling authors. First produced in New York in 1985, Blaguards was the comedic springboard for Frank's instant classics Angela's Ashes and 'Tis, and Malachy's A Monk Swimming.

Wilmington, N.Y. --- Although work is underway to repair the Whiteface Mountain Veterans' Memorial Highway, organizers of the 37th annual Whiteface Mountain Uphill Foot Race, say that the race will go on as scheduled, Saturday, Sept. 13. "The current construction will cause minimal effect to the event," said race organizer and director of the Whiteface Mountain Regional Visitors Bureau Michelle Burns. "I'm confident that racers will enjoy their experience this year, just like they have over the past 36 years of this race."
