George Eastman House Schedule for July and August 2014

Klaatu barada nikto!Rochester, N.Y. - The Thing from Another World, Batman, The Lord of the Rings, The Birds and even Howard the Duck and a robot named Gort are heading toward Rochester and the George Eastman House International Museum of Photography and Film this summer. Eastman House is also featuring the first part of a two-part film tribute to the late Philip Seymour Hoffman. 

Trolley into Mark Twain Country tours to begin July 1 at The Chemung Valley History Museum

Elmira, N.Y. - The Chemung County Chamber of Commerce's Trolley into Mark Twain Country begins its 2014 summer tours on Tuesday, July 1. The trolley is operated as a joint effort between the Chemung County Historical Society and the Chemung County Chamber of Commerce, providing tours each summer to promote tourism in the area. 

Guided tours aboard "The Elmiran" depart on the hour from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesdays through Saturdays from July 1 through August 30, and will be operating on July 4. Riders may board from the lobby of the Chemung Valley History Museum, located at 415 East Water Street in Elmira.

Destiny USA launches Summer Fun Day Pass Program

Summer Fun Day PassVoucher program allows families to pay one price to visit four entertainment venues for the day

Syracuse, N.Y.- Destiny USA will launch its Summer Fun Day Pass on July 1 for families and friends to enjoy the many entertainment venues available at the facility at a discounted rate. The program will run from July 1 to August 31, 2014.

The Summer Fun Day Pass is a booklet of vouchers guests can purchase at one cost to trade in for admission tickets to the participating venues.

Pittsford, N.Y. - The Finger Lakes Regional Tourism Council won a PRism award for its Public Relations efforts, at a ceremony hosted by the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), Rochester Chapter on June 19. The final numbers for the 2013 Regional Public Relations program boasted a total of 3.2 billion impressions for the year. The 14-county Finger Lakes Vacation region started the collaborative program in 2010 as a way to increase marketing efforts for the Finger Lakes and to draw more attention to the region as a whole.

Several new tours were added this year, including the "Ghastly Ghost Tour" of haunted places in downtown Owego; You Say Potato, I Say Potahto," a trip to the Richford Potato Festival; "A Journey Through Time," a visit to The Museum of the Earth in Ithaca, NY; "Terrible Tioga," a tour to lesser-known locations of horrific and intriguing happenings in Tioga County; and "Wine a Little, Hop a Little," a tasting tour of a local winery, malthouse and taproom.

Strong Puzzle CollectionRochester, N.Y. - The Strong in Rochester, New York, has acquired a collection of more than 7,000 jigsaw puzzles, including examples from virtually all American and most European puzzle makers from the 18th century to present, as well as tools and equipment used for puzzle making since that era. The collection comes to The Strong from Anne Williams-considered by many to be the foremost expert and author on jigsaw puzzle history. Her books on the subject include the Jigsaw Puzzle: Piecing Together History and Cutting a Fine Figure: The Art of the Jigsaw Puzzle.

Dryden Theatre Announces Film Series to Honor Philip Seymour Hoffman

George Eastman House to begin film series on July 2

Rochester, N.Y. - The Dryden Theatre at George Eastman House announced today that it will be screening more than a dozen films as part of series in memory of the late Philip Seymour Hoffman. The two-part series will run from July through October at the Dryden Theatre at 900 East Avenue in Rochester. Hoffman, a Rochester-area native, died on February 2, 2014. He will be remembered as one of the most talented, ambitious, and audacious actors of any generation.

Syracuse, N.Y.- Destiny USA is hosting Tykes Tuesday again this year in conjunction with Regal Summer Movie Express. The programs are perfect for families who are looking for something to do while the kids are on summer break.

Tykes Tuesday will be in the Canyon Area every Tuesday from July 1 to August 26 from noon to 2 p.m. The nine-week program will be packed with entertainment from an appearance by Clifford the Big Red Dog to demonstrations by the Syracuse Police Department.
