Museum Evening Speaker Series to focus on the Ice Harvesting Industry

Ice HarvestingCornwall-on-Hudson, N.Y. - The Hudson Highlands Nature Museum in partnership with the Cornwall Presbyterian Church presents their Winter Evening Speakers Series: The Ice Harvesting Industry. This lecture will take place on Tuesday, February 24, 7:30 p.m. at the Cornwall Presbyterian Fellowship Hall, 222 Hudson Street, Cornwall-on-Hudson.

The Hudson Valley was once the world's epicenter of the natural ice industry. Spring fed lakes supplied ice to the finest NYC hotels and luxurious ocean liners and it was prized across Europe, Asia and Australia.

Saturday, February 14, 2015, beginning at 2:00 p.m. in the Henry A. Wallace Center at the FDR Presidential Library and Home   Hyde Park, N.Y. -- The Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum will host an afternoon of Presidents Day Weekend events on Saturday, February 14, 2015. The program will begin at 2:00 p.m. in the Henry A. Wallace Center at the FDR Presidential Library and Home with a book talk and signing with David L. Holmes author of THE FAITHS OF THE FOUNDING FATHERS. Holmes will sign copies of his book after the talk. From 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. in the Research Room of the FDR Presidential Library, visitors can view a selection of presidential autographs from the Roosevelt Library archives -- many of which are from FDR's personal collection -- on display only once a year. These events are free and open to the general public.

Ring in the New Year with a First Day Hike at Fort OntarioWinter Walk through History at Fort Ontario Oswego, N.Y. - Fort Ontario State Historic Site's first annual "Winter Walk through History" is scheduled for Jan. 1, 2015. The event will feature a narrated historical stroll around the grounds and buildings of the old 75-acre military reservation. Led by AmeriCorps staffer and historian Mitchell Manniccia, the walk will begin at 10 a.m. in the Enlisted Men's Barracks inside the old stone fort. The event is free and open to the public. Free parking will be available in the main visitor lot. The Winter Walk Through History event is part of New York State Park's statewide First Day Hikes Program and is being conducted in cooperation with Oswego County AmeriCorps and Friends of Fort Ontario. First Day Hikes encourage participation in healthy outdoor winter physical activities and are a fun way for the whole family to ring in the New Year.

Central NY Boat Show Helps Earn Association Ferguson Award

The Marine Retailers Association of the Americas has named the Boating Industries Association of Upstate New York/BIA, headquartered in Cicero, NY, as the 2014 Bill Ferguson Award winner for outstanding service by a marine trades association to its members and to the boating industry.
