Skaneateles, N.Y. - Hop aboard, matey! Mid-Lakes Navigation has set its annual Pirate Day for Aug. 13. Joining the marauding this year is Rusty Rice, a captain for the Barbara S. Wiles. Although new to Pirate Day, he is no stranger to pirate play. Rice was a second mate on the Continental Sloop Providence, a replica of America's first war ship, when Disney chartered the tall ship and hired its crew as extras. He appeared in "Pirates of the Caribbean: Deadman's Chest" and "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End."

(Aug. 6, 2014) - The Hudson River Valley Greenway and Hudson River Valley National Heritage announced today that the 15th Annual Hudson River Valley Ramble will feature more than 200 exciting events throughout the Hudson River Valley region. The Ramble will be held during each weekend in September, and features the events of more than 150 partner organizations. The Hudson River Valley Ramble offers a variety of walks, hikes, paddles, biking tours and other events and is designed to showcase the scenic, natural, historic and cultural resources of the Hudson River Valley National Heritage Area . Ramble events are led by naturalists, ecologists, historians, geologists and trained volunteers from participating organizations.
Skaneateles, N.Y. - Miss America IX, the first boat in the world to exceed 100 mph, will be among the 150 boats on display at the Antique and Classic Boat Society (ACBS) Annual Meeting and International Boat Show. The Society's 39th annual show, held at the Skaneateles Country Club, 3344 W. Lake Road (Rte. 41A), is open to the public Sept. 19 and 20.

Waterford, N.Y. - Erie Canalway National Heritage Corridor has produced a new directory of canal sites and museums to introduce New York State residents and visitors to more than 45 sites all along the NYS Canal System. The directory is available at numerous canal sites and visitor centers along the Erie, Oswego, Cayuga-Seneca, and Champlain Canals.
