Public Transportation Announced for March 21-22, 28-29, 2015 Maple Weekends in Lewis County

The Lewis County Maple Producers Association and Cornell Cooperative Extension are sponsoring rider fares aboard Lewis County Public Transportation buses that will take visitors to Maple Weekend sites March 21-22 and 28-29. Bus schedules will be posted at the American Maple Museum in Croghan and at the five participating sugarhouses. The handicapped-accessible buses will start at the American Maple Museum in Croghan, and leave the museum approximately every 30 minutes.

Rulfs OrchardPlattsburgh, N.Y. - The public is invited to meet Northern New York farmers, food processors, wine and cider makers, and chefs with a diverse array of products at the 5th annual Food from the Farm event on Saturday, March 7 from 2:00pm to 5:00pm at the Plattsburgh Recreation Center gymnasium on the US Oval in Plattsburgh, NY.

Visitors will have the opportunity to sample and buy locally-grown or produced foods, wine and cider; pick up recipes and gardening tips; meet local food producers, and support the local economy and food movement. Products for sale may include overwintered storage crops such as carrots, beets and potatoes; winter greens, frozen meat, maple, honey, wine, and hard cider.

March Maple Madness at The Wild Center

Tupper Lake, N.Y. - Each weekend in March, join The Wild Center in celebrating all things maple! Tour the sugar shack, try the maple quest, taste some maple treats at the cafe, and special programming celebrate the maple sugaring season.

The month begins on Sunday, March 1st with special presentations at 10:30 am featuring an overview of The Wild Center's maple program and of maple sugaring in the Adirondacks. Don't forget to stop by and visit with an Adirondack Museum historian and check out some old school maple artifacts. The day also includes discounts in store, maple foods to try, a Maple Porter beer tasting, sugar shack tours, a Maple Quest for kids, animal encounters and a snowshoe hike.

Finger Lakes, N.Y. - The Finger Lakes Cheese Trail has partnered with the Seneca Lake Wine Trail for a third year to host a series of intimate wine and cheese pairing events this winter. Preferred Pairings is a series of three monthly events where the creameries of the Cheese Trail pair with different members of the Wine Trail to offer select pairings of reserve wines and artisanal cheeses to their audience. The first in this series is February 28, from 10:00am-5:00pm, and pairs 10 wineries with 9 of the Cheese Trail's member creameries.
