Simple Gifts "Down Home Folk" with Simple Gifts, March 18, 7:30 p.m. Simple Gifts, a multi-talented female folk-singing duo perform "Down Home Folk" at Strong National Museum of Play on Wednesday, March 18 at 7:30 p.m. From lively Irish Jigs and American reels to hard-driving Klezmer freilachs, haunting Gypsy melodies, and exotic Balkan dance tunes, Simple Gifts performs a wide variety of ethnic folk music with humor, warmth, and energy. Concert-goers will be treated to the sounds of traditional as well as unusual instruments including the bowed psaltery, baritone fiddle, banjolin, guitjo, and doumbek. The performance is part of the museum's Making American Music Wednesday evening music series for adults. Tickets are also available for the season's remaining concerts: April 15, 2009-A Night of Blues, featuring The White Hots. Eastman School Family Performance, Friday, March 20, 6:00 p.m. Enjoy a special , all-ages evening performance presented by the New Eastman Orchestra and conductor Jonathan Girard at Strong National Museum of Play on Friday, March 20 at 6:00 p.m. Eastman School students will demonstrate a variety of instruments and perform with a full orchestral complement (including a little brass). Enjoy selections from Handel's Royal Fireworks and Beethoven's Seventh Symphony. The kid-friendly concert is included with general museum admission fees. (Note: The museum is now open until 8:00 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays!)
