A non-profit organization, the Pelham Picture House in Westchester County has been entertaining filmgoers for more than 80 years - since the days of silent films. It's evolved through the years, making the transition to sound, providing escapism for Great Depression-weary audiences, and news footage and information from the fronts of World War II. The Picture House is about to make another transition, becoming a state-of-the-art film and educational center. Integrating the old and the new, a 250-seat theater will be constructed in the Picture House's original auditorium. In the newly restored Picture House, audiences will see the best in motion pictures: narrative features, documentaries, shorts, festival films, special series, retrospectives, and classics from around the world. A studio/editing room for instructional purposes, plus state-of-the art sound and projection systems are also in the works, provide people of all ages with the opportunity to learn about the art, technology, and business of film.
