albany-logo-new.JPGAlbany, N.Y. --- The Albany County Convention & Visitors Bureau, along with Mayor Jennings, are excited to literally roll out the red carpet for the Columbia Pictures' Albany premiere of SALT, Thursday, July 22, 2010, at the Palace Theatre. The premiere will begin at 8:00 pm - doors open at 7:00 pm. Tickets for the Albany SALT premiere are limited, COMPLIMENTARY, and all tickets are open seating, limited to four tickets per person, and are available on a first-come-first-serve basis. Tickets must be picked up in person at one of the aforementioned locations: Albany Heritage Area Visitors Center, 25 Quackenbush Square, in downtown Albany; the Palace Theatre Box Office, 19 Clinton Ave (not open on summer Fridays); and at the City of Albany Office of Special Events, located on the 4th floor of Albany City Hall.  "I am extremely proud of the efforts put forth by the Albany County Convention & Visitors Bureau, the City of Albany, and the Palace Theatre, who have come together to offer this exciting opportunity," said Albany Mayor Gerald D. Jennings. "If you've seen the previews or were lucky enough to watch the cast and crew filming in our Capital City, you know what a thrilling cinematic experience SALT will be. I look forward to enjoying this complimentary premiere at the Palace, and I thank everyone involved with making this project a reality." Michele Vennard, President and CEO of the Albany County Convention & Visitors Bureau, estimates the local economic impact from the 2009 SALT filming in Albany to conservatively be over $2.5 million - a reflection of direct spending in Albany County for the business generated by Columbia Pictures through hotel stays, food, travel, entertainment, production costs, and other expenditures. SALT, starring Hollywood giant Angelina Jolie, used the Empire State Plaza's three-level configuration of road ways and ramps, to film an invigorating chase scene, for a two week period back in late April/early May, of 2009. In SALT, Jolie plays a CIA agent under suspicion of being a Russian spy.  While none of the films' stars will be present at the Albany premiere, a professional Angelina Jolie impersonator, sponsored by Yono's and dp An American Brasserie, will be in attendance at the Palace Theatre and available for photos. "The complimentary premiere is an exciting way to thank the hundreds of local residents and businesses who worked with Columbia Pictures to help make the Albany production of SALT a success," said Chris Gould, General Manager of the Palace Theatre. "We are honored to host the Albany premiere of SALT at the Palace." The last major motion picture premiere held at the Palace Theatre was in 1987, for Ironweed.
