Phoenix, N.Y. - "Pulling Our Community Together" is the Lamson Road Community Church motto and a perfect fit with the church's annual Antique Tractor Pull. The 4th annual event is set for August 8 at the church's 65-acre grounds at 2259 Lamson Road at the corner of Route 48 in Phoenix, NY. The day's schedule begins with worship and prayer at 7:30am and tractor registration at 8am. Pulling starts at 9:30am with three divisions with weight classes from 3,500 to 7,000-10,500 lbs. Central New York Antique Tractor Pulling Alliance Rules apply. There is a $10 hook fee. Any year tractor can compete in the Open Class; no duals please and four wheel drive tractors cannot pull with front wheels engaged. Pastor Mike Houck says he expects well over 50 tractors to compete in the event inspired by church members. "The idea for this event came from church members who are pullers and we now have a "Pulling Our Community Together" pulling team that travels and host this annual pull as an opportunity to meet our neighbors," Pastor Houck says. The church team pullers travel to nearby events to compete with two Oliver 66 tractors donated by a tractor pulling retiree. Children's activities, hayrides and BBQ are part of the free admission event. A Fun Run will benefit a local family. Operation Christmas Child, sometimes called the "shoe box ministry," will provide information on how to pack some of the 8 million shoe boxes filled with small toys, school supplies and hygiene items that will be hand-delivered to children in more than 100 countries around the globe in 2010. Operation Christmas Child is a year-round project of the international Christian relief and evangelism organization Samaritan's Purse headed by Dr. Billy Graham's son Franklin Graham. "We are excited to be part of this special event that reaches out to neighbors and friends with the motto of "Pulling Our Community Together" and to talk with people about how simple shoe box gifts can carry Jesus and joy to children in need on six continents," says Patty Jennings, Operation Christmas Child Area Coordinator for Oswego, Oneida, Herkimer, Lewis and Jefferson counties. "The 2010 National Collection Week for Operation Christmas Child is November 15-22, so we are encouraging people to start purchasing items for the boxes now."
