nyshta2.JPGSaratoga native, Jan Marie Chesterton, to take over July 1 Albany, N.Y.  - Jan Marie Chesterton, Saratoga Springs, NY, has been named President of the New York State Hospitality & Tourism Association (NYSH&TA), effective July 1, 2010. NYSH&TA, based in Albany, is a not-for-profit trade organization that represents more than 1,300 member businesses and individuals in the lodging and attractions industry. Its mission is to provide a strong voice for the New York state hospitality and tourism industry, and protect and enhance the financial welfare of the industry. Prior to being named president, Chesterton served the Association in various capacities for more than 13 years, most recently as Vice President. She brings with her executive-level experience in the development, growth and leadership of member-driven, not-for-profit organizations.  "As a longtime Association member and current Chairman of the Board, I am proud to announce that our very own Jan Marie Chesterton was unanimously approved by NYSH&TA's Executive Committee as the Association's next president," said Michael Hoffman, President of Turf Hotels, an Albany-based hotel management company with four award-winning hotels. "Jan's work ethic, knowledge of NYSH&TA, integrity and belief that the Association's best days are ahead, made her the best choice to succeed current president, Daniel C. Murphy, who is retiring after serving the Association for nearly 15 years as president." In her new role as president, Chesterton will spearhead all lobbying efforts, provide leadership for the Association's day-to-day organizational operations and oversee the fulfillment of membership needs. During her time with NYSH&TA, Chesterton has served on numerous boards and received several awards and certifications, including: Chairman of the Board of Directors, International Society of Hospitality Association Executives; Board of Directors member, Empire State Society of Association Executives; Saratoga County Chamber of Commerce Leadership Program graduate; United State Chamber of Commerce Institute of Organization Management graduate; awarded the American Hotel and Lodging Association's Most Valuable Membership Award and earned the their Chairman's Cup for Membership Growth and Retention "This Association is the lodging industry's legislative voice in Albany, and under my leadership we will continue to vigorously fight against any and all legislation that may negatively impact the lodging community," said Chesterton.  "I am familiar with where the Association has come because I have been part of multiple strategic planning initiatives that have ultimately led to NYSH&TA's growth and expansion, and I look forward to continuing to deliver value to the lodging industry and tourism community as a whole."
