Schenectady, NY - Join the Zoppé Italian Circus family at Proctors for eight unforgettable performances between Thursday, August 9 and Sunday, August 12. Follow them on their journey to an enchanted, thrilling world far from our digital age - to a world of acrobatics, equestrian showmanship, canine capers, clowns and an abundance of audience participation. No seat in the house is more than 25 feet from the action. Always charming, often thrilling, the Zoppé Circus is an intimate, involving experience and thrilling summer extravaganza, exhibited outdoors rain or shine under a real Big-Top tent. The outdoor extravaganza features astonishing aerial dancers, an exquisite equestrian ballerina, jovial jugglers, tenacious tightrope walkers and legendary performers Nino and Pepino from Italy's Zoppé clown family dynasty. "[T]he Zoppé circus evokes something from a picture book:  the clown, the trapeze, the dancing dogs, the ring and the tent. The show is frozen in time... exactly the way it's supposed to be."                                                                              The New York Times THE ZOPP? CIRCUS FAMILY TRADITION The Zoppè Family Circus emerged from humble beginnings more than 160 years ago to become one of the legendary circuses in all of Europe. In 1842, Napoleone and Ermengilda Zoppé founded Circo Zoppé near Venice, Italy and their vision lives on as Zoppé, a traditional one-ring European circus. Starring Nino the clown, the circus is propelled by a central story (as opposed to individual acts) that feature acrobatic feats, equestrian showmanship, canine capers, clowning and plenty of audience participation. Giovanni Zoppè, the sixth-generation circus performer who plays Nino, says the show aims higher than what passes for circuses these days. "We try to touch every emotion during the show," he says. "They'll laugh, they'll cry, and they'll feel for the characters." The Zoppé Italian Family Circus Family at Proctors in August is made possible with public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts, celebrating 50 years of building strong, creative communities in New York State's 62 counties.
