Auditions are for the children's roles in Balanchine's Garland Dance. Garland Dance is Balanchine's 1981 interpretation of the famous dance from The Sleeping Beauty, the first ballet the legendary choreographer danced as a child in Russia.  Balanchine's strong belief in the importance of the performance tradition for young people is perhaps nowhere better demonstrated than in his recreation of the iconic piece. The work featuring a large cast, including 16 children, has never been performed at SPAC as an excerpted work. Casting for the ballet includes roles for 16 girls ages 9-12, who are less than 5 feet tall and have at least two years of ballet training. Understudies will also be cast. PHOTOGRAPHERS & MEMBERS OF THE MEDIA ARE ENCOURAGED TO ATTEND! Auditions are expected to be ongoing from approximately 3:15 p.m. until 5 p.m. or later. The National Museum of Dance is located at 99 South Broadway, Saratoga Springs. Auditions will take place at the Museum's School of the Arts studios.
