buffalo-niagara-cvb.gifShort film tells story of a Buffalo renaissance rooted in the city's tremendous geography, street grid design, parks, neighborhoods and architecture Buffalo, N.Y. -Buffalo is "the best planned city, as to its streets, public places, and grounds, in the United States, if not the world." That's a bold statement by a pretty authoritative figure - Frederick Law Olmsted, the father of American landscape architecture. Paget Films and executive producer Visit Buffalo Niagara explore and celebrate this idea in a new video released today, "Buffalo: America's Best Designed City." The video shows how Buffalo's geography at the intersection of the Buffalo River, Lake Erie and the Niagara River; the layout of the city's radial street grid by Joseph Ellicott; a system of parks and parkways designed by Olmsted; and works by masters of American architecture like Frank Lloyd Wright, Louis Sullivan and H.H. Richardson are at the core of a Buffalo renaissance being led by a group of visionary leaders. Filmmaker John Paget captured stunning footage of Buffalo, including jaw-dropping aerial shots, as well as interviews with members of Buffalo's arts, architecture, design, planning, business, education and development communities, including Tim Tielman, Bob Shibley, Chris Hawley, Jill Jedlicka, Rocco Termini, Bernice Radle, Dana Marciniak, Stephanie Barber Geter, Marcus Wise, Justin Booth, and Howard and Leslie Zemsky. "The title makes a bold claim, but I think the film ultimately backs it up," said John Paget, owner of Paget Films and director of the video. "I believe there's a huge opportunity for Buffalo's exquisite design to be rediscovered by a new generation who want to live and work in places of urban vitality." "Visit Buffalo Niagara has enjoyed an extremely productive relationship with Paget Films," said Visit Buffalo Niagara V.P. of Marketing Edward J. Healy. "The videos we've collaborated on have been viewed more than 700,000 times on YouTube and helped to tell a new story about our community, which is why we have been an enthusiastic supporter of the ‘Best Designed City' project. We're certain Paget Films has hit another home run and can't wait for the traveling public to see this exciting new video." The video, which runs approximately 12 minutes, can be found online at http://www.bestdesignedcity.com/. Visit Buffalo Niagara is the video's executive producer.
