destination-moon.JPGNew York, N.Y. - The Destination Moon Music and Art Festival is an oasis within an urban jungle--set in the massive backyard of a 19th century complex on the upper west side, environmentally themed art installations are set among groovin' indie rock bands. The inaugural festival will take place Sunday, Aug. 17 at Hosteling International, at 104th st and Amsterdam Ave. Destination Moon will be completely powered with a twenty kilowatt solar trailer, which will be on display and fully charged on arrival, so don't worry about a cloudy day! Expect an awesome set from bands like Elizabeth & the Catapult, as well as These Animals, Alpenglow, Lapland and many others. The main focus, by way of using solar energy, is to produce a music and arts festival with as small of a carbon footprint as possible. In addition to that goal, the art installations throughout the festival thoughtfully recycled materials and utilized renewable energy. Festival-goers can experience this in a number of ways, such as fusing plastic bags to make billfolds and activate carnival-style games via pedal-power. An incredible variety of art is available both outdoors and indoors, including visionary music videos and stunning, original short films on multiple screens. Exciting food options for the day include Neapolitan Express, which is the first mobile pizzeria to run on compressed natural gas. They serve organic, high quality, authentic Neapolitan pizzas. Local start-up Brooklyn Bangers will be grilling homemade artisanal sausages. Vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free options will be available as well. Also, our generous sponsors from Brooklyn Brewery will be slinging drinks all day. Additional late-summer relaxation will be provided by students of the Swedish Institute, who will be offering massages for a suggested donation. Destination Moon will take place on Saturday, August 17th, 2013, at Hostelling International, at 104th street and Amsterdam Avenue. From 3pm until 11pm.
