Saratoga Springs, N.Y. -- In conjunction with its July 22nd performance at Saratoga Performing Arts Center (SPAC), the MOMIX dance company will present an Improvisation Master Class at The National Museum of Dance on Monday, July 21 from 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. The class, an exploration in physical improvisation, will be taught by Brian Simerson, dancer and choreographer with MOMIX for 20 years. The class is open to all with a creative spirit - no dance background is required. Tickets are just $15 and available at www.spac.org.

"This is a one-of-a-kind opportunity to learn the MOMIX aesthetic," said Marcia J. White, SPAC's President and Executive Director. "There is only one MOMIX -- the work they produce is completely original, thoroughly unique. The Master Class will, in many ways, mimic the improvisational choreographic style of highly acclaimed MOMIX founder and choreographer, Moses Pendleton. Teacher Brian Simerson will draw energy and inspiration for the class through his participants in much the same way that Moses Pendleton draws choreographic inspiration directly through his dancers."

Brian Simerson joined MOMIX in 1994. Simerson teaches internationally in over twenty countries. In 2013, he became a Fellow of The Brooklyn Academy of Music and The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Previously, he was a principal of the Erick Hawkins Dance Company. In 2012, he created ‘Bach and Forth' for Justin Tuck of the NY Giants and premiered at the Jacob's Pillow Inside/Out series. Also an active composer, Simerson regularly creates both choreographic and symphonic commissions across the country.

Reservations for the master class are required and may be made by registering online at spac.org. Participants must be ages 14 and older. Dance experience is preferred but not necessary; athletes are welcome. The cost is $15 per person in advance; $20 at the door. For more information contact the Dance Museum's School of the Arts at 518.584.2225 ext. 3008 or via email at school@dancemuseum.org.

The July 22, one-night-only, MOMIX performance of reMIX at SPAC will showcase snapshots of the company's most striking images from the past 30 years through MOMIX's signature fusion of dance, theater, and cinema. Immediately preceding the program will be a pre-performance talk with Moses Pendleton, founder of MOMIX, and one of the most innovative and prolific American choreographers of the last 40 years. For tickets or more information about the performance or pre-talk, visit www.spac.org.
