New Rates and An Insider's Guide to Advocacy Theme Highlight Immersive Retreat for Museum Professionals

Troy, N.Y. - The Museum Association of New York (MANY), the only statewide organization that works as both a hub for the state's museum community and a powerful voice for the advancement of art, history, science and children's museums, as well as zoos, botanical gardens and other cultural organizations, announced today an all-new Museum Institute at Great Camp Sagamore.

Taking place September 21-24 at the Historic Great Camp, this year's Museum Institute features new reduced rates and a theme that focuses on advocacy from both sides of the issue.

This year's program focuses on museum and cultural institution advocacy and the group of presenters on hand will provide knowledge about what works, and what doesn't, when it comes to advocating for your institution, from the CFA process to meeting with local, state and federal policy makers.

Presenters will include:

  • Assemblyman Jack McEneny (retired)
  • Ember Farber, Assistant Director for Advocacy Engagement, The American Association of Museums (AAM)
  • Paul Bray, ESQ, former Director of the Legislative Bill Drafting Commission
  • James Larson, Legislative Relations Specialist, NYS Union of Teachers (NYSUT)
  • Hillarie Logan-Dechene, Director of Philanthropy, the WILD Center
    Sheila Healy, MANY Lobbyist
  • Garet Livermore, Executive Director, Great Camp Sagamore
  • Sarah Kijowski, Interim Director, Slate Valley Museum
  • Devin Lander, Executive Director of MANY

The Museum Institute at Great Camp Sagamore provides a unique networking and immersive learning experience for museum professionals located in the beautiful splendor of the Adirondacks. Activities at the Great Camp include hiking, canoeing and kayaking on the camp's private lake, tennis, bowling, campfires, and relaxation.
