Queen City Pride in Poughkeepsie is Thursday - Sunday, June 5-8:
Five events spread over four days will be held at various locations in Poughkeepsie, the Queen City of the Hudson, celebrating the LGBT community and its allies. From bowling to picnicking, it's a great way to start the summer, so why not make a weekend of it? The Holiday Inn Express in Poughkeepsie is offering discounted rooms. Dutchess County Heritage Days Civil War Weekend on Saturday & Sunday, June 14-15:
The Civil War Weekend moves to Tymor Park in Union Vale on June 14th &15th with battles daily at 1pm. The FREE 2nd annual Dutchess Heritage Days weekend includes a History Fair, plus military and artillery demos by the 150th New York Volunteers (the Dutchess County Regiment), and other reenactors. The Fair showcases displays from area historical societies and preservation groups. Commemorate the Civil War's 150th anniversary with presentations on Civilian Aid Societies, medicine and women's involvement in the War. See children's Quaker Gun musket drills. Hear the inspiring Dutchess Anti-Slavery Singers. Take candlelight tours of military camps. The event is 10am-5pm on Saturday and 10am-4pm on Sunday. The Great Race on Sunday, June 22:
This year, the Hemmings Motor News Great Race, presented by Hagerty, begins on June 21 in Maine and ends on June 29 in Florida. On Sunday, June 22, the cars will finish their driving route for the day, stopping at Shadows on the Hudson in Poughkeepsie around 5pm. Cars and drivers stay overnight in Poughkeepsie. Iconic cars such as the 1951 Hudson Hornet and the 1969 Dodge Charger make an appearance. It's a classic car show, so stop by to Shadows on the Hudson to view the cars and chat with drivers and navigators. Discover Hudson Valley Ride on Sunday, June 29:
Bike New York presents the annual "Discover Hudson Valley", where riders can choose between 15, 33, 50, 75, or 100 mile routes throughout the picturesque Hudson Valley. Refreshments and live entertainment will be provided for all cyclists at the end of this fully supported ride taht starts and ends in Poughkeepsie. Dragon Boat Race and Festival on Saturday, July 5th:
Dutchess County Tourism sponsors the first-ever Dragon Boat Race and Festival on Saturday, July 5th, from 8:30am-2pm. Twenty-four teams will compete on a 200-meter course on the Hudson River in colorfully decorated Dragon Boats. Along the shoreline the Asian Cultural Festival is happening concurrently, with performances and interactive events for people of all ages. It's all free to attend at the HRRA Community Boathouse in Poughkeepsie! All proceeds benefit Arts Mid-Hudson and the Miles of Hope Breast Cancer Foundation.
