Owego, N.Y. - The Historic Owego Marketplace in downtown Owego is pleased to announce the 34th Annual Strawberry Festival will be held Friday night, 5:00-10:30 pm, June 20 and on Saturday, June 21, 9:00-5:00 pm.
This year's festival has a lot to offer including the annual parade, food and craft vendors, live music, street entertainers, a dog show, wine and beer tasting tent, fireworks, a 5K run and much more!
"The organizers worked hard to bring a variety of entertaining activities to the festival so there is something for everyone to enjoy. There's a lot to see and do that you won't find other places. The historic setting and village shops give the festival a certain charm unique to Owego," said Rebecca Maffei, Director of Tioga Tourism.
This annual event is enjoyed by 20,000 plus guests each year and has over 200 vendors. According to Festival Organizers, Sandy and Fran Dunbar, quality craft and food vendors are being selected along with many activities for children. "Besides showcasing Tioga County's unique offerings, Fran and I are working to get the Owego Strawberry Festival back to being a quality craft show at heart with many new vendors. On Saturday, visitors can expect the best parade, delicious food for every taste and fun activities and entertainment for children as always. The amazing music line-up for this two day event is definitely a highlight this year with eleven popular bands. We have a new and awesome fireworks display for after the Friday night block party!" Sandy said.
The Strawberry Festival is a celebration of one of the area's most beloved farm products, the strawberry. This year's theme, "Strawberry Smiles" is a nod to the sweet fruit and the merry atmosphere of the festival.
On Friday the Strawberry Shake 5K Run/Walk and Shortcake 1M Kid's Race have become popular kick-off events with over 500 people participating in this sanctioned event last year. Many more runners are expected this year. Pre-registered runners will receive a race tee shirt, a goody bag and can treat themselves to an on-site massage following the race!
This year's Parade Grand Marshall is Robert Fisher, CEO of Tioga State Bank, celebrating its 150th anniversary serving Tioga County. The parade will feature many floats with different themes, fire trucks, local veteran organizations, high school bands, gymnasts, horses and more!
A complete schedule and list of bands/entertainment, vendor applications, contest entry forms, sponsorship opportunities, directions and other ways to get involved in the festival can be found on www.owegostrawberryfestival.com. Vendor applications must be received by May 30, 2014.
