Pittsford, N.Y. - The Finger Lakes Regional Tourism Council won a PRism award for its Public Relations efforts, at a ceremony hosted by the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), Rochester Chapter on June 19. The final numbers for the 2013 Regional Public Relations program boasted a total of 3.2 billion impressions for the year.
The 14-county Finger Lakes Vacation region started the collaborative program in 2010 as a way to increase marketing efforts for the Finger Lakes and to draw more attention to the region as a whole.
2013 was the most successful year of the program to date, with 214 total travel articles in publications such as USA Today, The New York Times, and The Wall Street Journal. The 2013 program was led by Quinn, a public relations agency in NYC, and garnered more than 6X the number of impressions than in 2012 (which had 166 placements and 550 million impressions).
In addition to successful articles, the region hosted several travel writers to the area last year. Counties collaborated on itineraries for media writers visiting the area including stops at the many historic, culinary, entertainment, and outdoor attractions in the Finger Lakes. The visits touted the ease of traveling to and around the region, while showing off the wide range of vacation activities available to visiting tourists.
2013 also marked the launch of a new regional campaign, known as the "I Love Fresh Air" program. The new campaign was led by the team at Break the Ice Media, a Rochester marketing and communications firm, and developed as a result of a grant awarded through the New York State Regional Economic Development Council Consolidated Funding Application process. It included the publication of a magazine and companion website that showcased the area's many outdoor assets. The magazine also won a PRism award at Thursday's ceremony.
"2013 was a big year for us, and we are excited to increase our collaborative efforts even further in the years to come," says Carol Eaton, Board Chair of the Finger Lakes Regional Tourism Council. "Success for this region does not stop at a county line. It is a team effort, and our program is paying off."
