Farm to ForkOwego, N.Y.- The Historic Owego Marketplace (HOM) will present Farm to Fork: Evening Market and Supper Series every Thursday this summer from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in Downtown Owego. Farm to Fork will bring local farmers to sell meat, cheese, produce and other farm products to consumers and to featured local restaurants. The restaurants will then use the local products and their culinary creativity to cook meals outdoors in view of the public.

According to HOM committee members, one goal of the farmers market is to give the public access to fresh, local food after business hours. The other is to create a unique, fun and educational event for the community that showcases local entrepreneurs working together.

Attendees will enjoy shopping at the market and the element of surprise in the Supper Series as local chefs create dishes around the seasonal produce and farm products. "There's a "Chopped" [Food Network television series] feel to it, where the restaurants have to work around what is available," said Laura Eberly, president of HOM. Customers who purchase supper will eat at community tables so they can visit with their friends and neighbors as they enjoy their freshly prepared meals from local establishments such as The Cellar Restaurant and Las Chicas Taqueria.

"This fun event will bring people together to celebrate our locally produced food, the skills of our chefs and farmers, and improve nighttime activities and entertainment in our downtown," said Eberly.

The first Farm to Fork: Evening Market and Supper Series will be held on June 19,, 2014. The open air event will take place on the sidewalk areas and deck located on Front Street, in the middle of Riverow.

HOM is looking for interested farmers, farm product vendors and restaurants to participate.
